The brilliant film composer took the gong for best score for his music for Guillermo del Toro’s film ‘The Shape of Water’
Alexandre Desplat’s score for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water has been named Best Original Score at the Golden Globes.
Desplat came in to Classic FM recently to talk about the film:
“The relationship between Sally Hawkins and her neighbour, Richard Jenkins, starts with music. So I just tried to be one more musical element in that puzzle.
“You try to find the spine, the soul, the essence of the film. And frankly the essence is a love story – a love story under water. How can this be translated into sounds and music?”
Accepting the award at the ceremony on Sunday evening he said: “Your movie has moved me so much because it’s made of your humanity and your passion”
Desplat has previously won Best Original Score at the Globes for The Painted Veil.
The other nominees this year were:
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – Carter Burwell
The Shape of Water – Alexandre Desplat
Phantom Thread — Jonny Greenwood
The Post — John Williams
Dunkirk — Hans Zimmer
