Ludovic Bource wins BAFTA for The Artist

Ludovic Bource scooped the Best Music award at the 2012 BAFTA Awards ceremony for his score to the black and white silent film The Artist.

The French film composer beat veteran composers John Williams and Howard Shore, Alberto Iglesias and Trent Reznor for his score to The Artist. The silent film was undoubtedly the evening’s biggest winner, scooping up 7 out of the 12 BAFTAs for which it was nominated, including Best Film, Best Director Award for Michel Hazanavicius, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin, Original Screenplay, Cinematography and Costume Design.

Bource, who started his career composing music for TV commercials, won a Golden Globe for his score in January and is now a favourite for Oscar glory.

Other winners on the night included the British spy thriller Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy which won the award for Outstanding British Film. The film, based on the book by John Le Carré also collected the awards for Adapted Screenplay and Meryl Streep was named Best Actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
