70 years ago, from June to October, the German Luftwaffe tried to bomb Great Britain into submission. It never happened. British courage and resourcefulness triumphed - and these events are celebrated in music and song on the latest release from The Carl Davis Collection.
Here are the songs the people sang, the film scores they loved and heard on the radio, and the music which defined an era. Carl Davis conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra and a host of soloists - and unsurprisingly, this album is released to coincide with the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
Carl Davis will direct performances of the music on this album at several concerts over the next couple of months, including Dunsfold Park in Surrey on 5th June, Lichfield on 9th July and Liverpool on 10th July. So if you enjoy the music you hear, why not take the chance to experience it live?
